Ramona T. Mercer
PhD, RN, FAAN
Ramona T. Mercer, PhD, RN, FAAN is professor emeritus in the
department of family health care nursing at the University of
California, San Francisco. Her career has included positions
as head nurse in pediatrics and staff nurse in intrapartum,
postpartum, and newborn nursery units. Her research on
parenting in low- and high-risk situations, and transition to
the maternal role has spanned over 30 years. Her current
activities include lecturing, consulting, and writing. She was
the 1990 recipient of the American Nurses Foundation’s
Distinguished Contribution to Nursing Science Award. She is
the author of Perspectives on Adolescent Health Care,
Transitions in a Woman’s Life, and Parents at Risk
