Appendix F: Best Practice Project No.4

Partnership Between Swan Hill and District Aboriginal Cooperative and Swan Hill Community Mental Health Service.

Extract from letter from Swan Hill and District Aboriginal Cooperative.

The Swan Hill Mental Health Service and the Swan Hill and District Aboriginal Cooperative have established an ongoing partnership.

The mental health service can be readily contacted and they reliably return calls if for any reason an immediate response is not possible.
The partnership between the two services is well developed to the level that most problems can be resolved in an informal manner. This is only possible because of the degree of trust that has been established.

Access to a psychiatrist has been well facilitated through the partnership. A psychiatrist visits Swan Hill 3 days a month and provides an excellent service for the Koori community.

The flexibility of the partnership between the mental health service and the Koori health service results in better outcomes for the Koori community and ensures that people are treated with respect at all times.
