  • DIST-NURSE - A U.K. based list to bring together ideas and views from the wide community of district nurses.   • District nurses : putting people first - This brief publication from the Community Practitioners' and Health Visitors' Association (CPHVA) discusses the role of the CPHVA in helping and working with district nurses.
  • Family health nurse project  - The Web site for the Family Health Nurse Project. "Family Health Nursing is an example of one model of service delivery which is being tested and piloted in Scotland to evaluate a role which incorporates a range of duties including disease prevention and health promotion as well as caring for those who are ill, or who have a disability." The site provides updates to the World Health Organisation (WHO) European Region Family Health Nurse Project, information on the Scottish Pilot, links to other sites and an FAQ.
  • Health visiting - The Health Visiting site provides information about child development and other health matters for parents of pre-school children. Information is provided on the services that the health visiting team offers, contact information for health visitor teams and links to other Web sites.
  • Health visitor - Health Visitors are qualified nurses with further specialised training and are experienced in child health, health promotion and health education. Our role is to help people stay healthy and avoid illness. We are here to listen to you and to help, advise and support you in all sorts of situations.   • Health visitor and school nurse innovations network - The Health Visitor and School Nurse Innovations Network aims to "help local practitioners share their experiences and to learn from each other as their roles evolve."

  • Internet for nursing, midwifery and health visiting - Internet for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting is one of a set of tutorials within the Resource Discovery Network's (RDN) Virtual Training Suite. Internet for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting is a free "teach yourself" tutorial on the Web, teaching Internet information skills for nurses, midwives, and health visitors.
  • Management of head louse infection - Public concern about head lice has increased in recent years. Although they are found on both clean and dirty hair, head louse infection is still falsely associated with uncleanliness and social stigma.

  • National electronic library for health (NeLH) community practitioner portal - This Web site is the community practitioner portal of the National electronic Library for Health (NeLH). A variety of information aimed at community practitioners is provided including community practitioner links, email discussion lists relevant to community practice, statutory bodies, links to clinical guidelines, evidence based information including databases, links to virtual branch libraries, other professional portals and resource centres.
  • New approach to health visiting documentation : the Omaha System project - A paper, by Jean Christenssen, University of Swansea, on the Omaha project. A team of health visitors from Swansea, under the leadership of Professor Dame June Clark initiated the Omaha project, which aimed to consider the problems of measuring nursing outcomes in health visiting.
  • NHS careers : health visiting - This document from the NHS Careers site provides information for those interested in pursuing a career as a health visitor in the UK. Information is available on what health visiting is, what it involves, and routes to joining. A case study is also provided.
  • NHS funded nursing care practice guide & workbook - The "NHS" Funded Nursing Care Practice Guide & Workbook' includes the Registered Nursing Care Contribution and was published by the Department of Health in 2001. It concerns the funding for free nursing care and continence products for self funding residents of care homes. In addition to an overview of new regulations, it includes, flow charts, examples of documentation and case studies and examples. It has been produced by the Health and Social Care Joint Unit, which is working within both the NHS Executive and Social Care Group. It is available in PDF, which requires Adobe Acrobat.
  • Patient care in the community : district nursing : summary information for 2001- 02, England - This summary document provides information about "patient contacts with the District Nursing service in England" from 2001-02. Data is collected, and published, by the Department of Health (DoH). The document includes a commentary, definitions, and statistical tables, which can be downloaded in Excel format or in PDF (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).
